R. Pumputienė notes what we need to know about the special categories of data in the new era of the pharmaceutical industry. For example, due to the GDPR, special attention is paid to the storage and use of data. The pharmaceutical sector collects, stores and manages unprecedented amounts of different categories of personal data, including special categories of data.

According to the GDPR, the special categories of data not only include the data on human health and sexual orientation but also on personal political views, convictions, religion, ethical origins and others, and this data, although it already has to be protected, now has to receive even more attention to ensure its full protection.
